A Day with the Hill Tribes

Atta from the Akha Tribe near Chiang Rai

Thursday was definitely one of my highlights of Thailand.  We spent the day visiting some of the hill tribes around Chiang Rai.  They live in beautiful villages set amongst the jungle.  Their traditional clothes are saved for festivals, however, to lure the tourists to their handicraft stalls some do dress up. I’m a sucker; at every village, I visited I felt guilty if I didn’t buy something so I accumulated … Continue reading

Chiang Mai

White Tiger Behind Bars at Chiang Mai Night Safari

I now understand why folk rave about Thailand’s night markets, the Sunday market in Chiang Mai was fantastic.  Some of the delights I sampled included a custard steam bun shaped like Kermit the frog and a very yummy coconut puff pastry.  The only dampener was the afternoon’s rain; we got absolutely drenched. On Monday evening we visited Chiang Mai Night Safari. My heart was very sad to see so many … Continue reading

Bottle Beach, Koh Pha Ngan

Bottle Beach, Koh Pha Ngan

Gele and I found paradise on Koh Pha Ngan, at beautiful Bottle Beach.  A tiny beach unspoilt by 1000’s of partying tourists the island is renowned for.  However, there were no swan towels at our simple, wooden bungalow, but the stunning views made up for it!!! A very lazy few days.  We met 2 lovely Aussie girls; if anyone visits Bottle Bay in the next 3 months, you’ll probably find … Continue reading

Koh Tao – Sairee Beach

Spent the last 3 nights at Koh Tao / Turtle Island. The weather has got wetter (bit strange being rainy season and all), so we decided to stay at Sairee Beach; if the weather continued to worsen at least we could play pool, watch a movie or something :oS As it turned out we were pretty lucky and during our stay we had only a few afternoon showers. The first … Continue reading

Bang Saphan Yai and A Night Boat

Bang Saphan Yai before the rains

Just spent a couple days in Bang Saphan Yai; a lovely, sleepy beach. Had an interesting journey there… 3 of us and all our luggage on the back of a motorcycle – Asian style :oS The driver could just about see over the top of the rucksacks. Our home for a few nights was a little beach bunglow, very simple but an amazing setting. We felt like we were staying … Continue reading
