Bottle Beach, Koh Pha Ngan

Gele and I found paradise on Koh Pha Ngan, at beautiful Bottle Beach.  A tiny beach unspoilt by 1000’s of partying tourists the island is renowned for.  However, there were no swan towels at our simple, wooden bungalow, but the stunning views made up for it!!!

A very lazy few days.  We met 2 lovely Aussie girls; if anyone visits Bottle Bay in the next 3 months, you’ll probably find Maddie still glued to her hammock with her billy bong.

Gele and I did manage to drag ourselves from the beach and climb up to a view point.  Gele is petrified of snakes, so we did it a bit too quick for my liking, especially in this humidity.  He said he didn’t want to get caught in the afternoon’s rain – hmmmm likely story; there was not a cloud in the sky.  He made me as nervous as him; the path was pretty overgrown as the jungle invaded, every scuttle in the undergrowth made my heart jump into my mouth. However, the most deadly creatures we saw were a litter of puppies.  The small hike, with the added excitement of snakes, was worth the aerial view of stunning Bottle Beach.

His worries actually were quite justified.  Apparently, last week a girl staying further down the beach discovered a snake in her bungalow. Gulp!!!  She moved to the expensive resort, only to find 2 green pythons coiled up in her toilet and sink.  Aaaaah!!!  That was the last straw for her and she made a hasty retreat from the beach.    After hearing that story I checked my bathroom and under the covers, for snakes, before going to bed.

I am now writing this on the ferry back to the mainland.  I am sad to leave.  To think I nearly didn’t come to Koh Pha Ngan since it is almost the full moon and 1000’s of party goers will descend onto the island for a teenage frenzy of drugs and alcohol.  I have turned into an old fart since that really didn’t sound like my cup of tea.  So big thanks to Maddie for sharing her paradise with us!!!
